This location is not nearly as famous or explored as our other options. Hiking to the top of Yellow Rock involves a short but steep 45 degree angle for a quarter of a mile before a large expanse of Yellow rock comes into view. Our goal is the top of the 5 football fields of sandstone but it is not required to enjoy the view. Standing on top of Yellow Rock allows us clear views of the scenic Cottonwood road which we drive down to the trail head of this hike. Other amazing views include the Cockscomb, Castle Rock, No Mans Mesa, Coyote Buttes and much more. There are no real trails to follow but we know several scenic places to stop and soak it all in. Some have compared this area to a more colorful Checkerboard Mesa in Zion National Park but the crowds don’t know this place. Random Ponderosa Pine and Utah Juniper trees add some nice variety to this seldom seen area. Drive time from Kanab is around 1.5 hours..
