Hiking to the White Rocks area of the Grand Staircase-Escalante can be very appealing to both photographers as well as hikers. This area is a seldom seen and little visited area with spectacular examples of the Entrada Sandstone capped by Dakota creating hundreds of hoodoo shaped towers. This place looks like Dr Seuss meets Jerry Garcia on an episode of The Twilight Zone. We can spend a full day either walking the area taking photos and moving along or spend plenty of time in the sections that are the most appealing to you. Typical time on the ground is around 5 hours and done primarily in the morning for incredible photography/viewing. Mid May to Mid Sept can be too hot for day hiking but the rest of the year is consistent with comfortable weather. Our options are to either stay on the top and circumnavigate the area looking down on all the hoodoos or spend time descending in sections where you might want a little closer look. Either way this area is very remote and will give you a great day of hiking and photography.
